Hey!
We've all done stupid things while flying these
funny-looking airplanes. Seatbelt not
latched. Left the gas cap off. Didn't hook
our helmet. But to win a Dufus Award, a PPC
pilot must have done something more special than that.
Do
you know someone worthy of receiving a Dufus Award?
The Dufus Awards were inspired by our
flying friends from the Show-Me Chute Flyers Club
flying out of Baugh Flight Park in southwest
Missouri.
A "Dufus"
in this case can be defined in several ways.
1. A
person who has pulled off a particularly dim-witted
stunt while operating a PPC or an ultralight aircraft.
2. A
person who, despite himself, has survived a flying
incident that he has wound up in out of sheer luck.
3.
The mind-boggling event itself.
We are
accepting nominations only from the flying friends of
the nominees (you know who you are!) of particularly
worthy Dufuses out there that deserve to receive a
Dufus Award. There are rules, however, to your
submission.
Rules of Dufus Award
Submission:
- List a
Title of the Incident on the Subject Line -- Be clever with this --
"New way to study a tree", or
"Testing water depth in your neighbor's pond"
- No names
-- we don't want to embarrass anyone (well, not by
name, anyway) -- we will accept initials only
(Named Dufuses will be removed from the Dufus
Awards page.)
- We want
a location of the event -- example, "Near Joplin, Missouri" or "Somewhere in the mountains
of North Carolina"
- Describe
the event in detail, but limit yourself to 250
words or less please. This is not a novel
you are writing.
- Unfortunately we have
not yet figured out how to do this with a photo --
we're working on that.
- You must
be registered with PPCPilot.com and you must
include your username (You do not have to include
your real name. PPCPilot.com registration is free
and takes only a couple of minutes.)
- This is
for fun only -- no Dufus Award nominations for
mishaps involving a severe injury or fatality.
- No
actual awards will be given to winning Dufuses. Just
the heckling of one's esteembed colleagues is
award enough.
